Mary MacGillivray & Ed Willett

Mary MacGillivray will be the featured fiddler at the 2017 Minnesota Scottish Fair & Highland Games on Saturday, July 15. Mary will be joined by cellist Ed Willett. Mary MacGillvray, daughter of Gold Medal winning ex-Battlefield Band bagpiper Duncan MacGillivray, comes from a distinguished family of Scottish musicians. Mary has been performing professionally and teaching fiddle in Scotland since 2010, and has performed in Celtic music festivals in the U.S., Australia, Ireland, France, and Brazil. Ed Willett is an extraordinary cellist working in genres including Jazz, Rock, Celtic, and Folk. Recent Celtic performances have included a performance on BBC Scotland, and at Edinburgh’s Tradfest. In 2016 Ed recorded a CD of Celtic music and recently completed a 12-state U.S. tour with a program of original and traditional Celtic music combined with the writings of Scottish born naturalist, John Muir.

For the preview workshop, Mary MacGillivray will lead beginning and intermediate learners by ear in the tunes that will be taught at the workshop on July 14. Fiddlers as well as players of other instruments are welcome. Students will be provided with audio files to review prior to the workshop, and with written music after the workshop, to aid in learning the tunes. The preview workshop will be held at the Celtic Junction from 1:30-3:30 on June 18.

Joining Mary for the full day workshop on July 14 will be Ed Willett teaching cello for all levels. The schedule for the workshops on July 14 is as follows:
